NPF pulls out of Arunachal polls

Kohima, Sept 23: The Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF), which had decided to participate in the Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, scheduled on October 13, has pulled out from the election scene of that state following the rejection of the Election Commission.

Though the state government was silent on the issue, All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union has been vehemently opposing the move of the NPF.

According to a statement issued by secretary general of NPF KG Kenye here today, the decision of pulling out from Arunachal Pradesh election was taken by the Executive Committee of the NPF after a threadbare discussion at its central office here yesterday following the ECI not granting approval to the party to contest the coming election in the state.

He said the decision had been necessitated following the delay of the ECI in approving the change in nomenclature of the party from Nagaland Peoples Front to Naga Peoples Front to contest Assembly elections in other parts of the North Eastern Region.

He also blamed the ECI on the issue and said the party had to withdraw because of the ''ill-conceived motive'' of the Election Commission and paucity of time in filing nominations.

He further stressed that the withdrawal from the elections was not because the party was demoralised or due to any threat. It revealed that the party had formally applied for the change of nomenclature with the ECI during early August this year, but the approval was not given till date. UNI

73 and still counting

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: 73 candidates have so far filed their nominations for the ensuing Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. With barely two days remaining for the last day of filing of nominations.

Today 16 INC candidates, 8 BJP, 5 Trinamool Congress, 6 Nationalist Congress Party and 2 from People’s party of Arunachal filed their nominations. Interestingly, two candidates from Indian National Candidates filed their nominations from Changlang North! All India Congress Committee had officially declared Tinghap Taiju as its nominee. The final date for nomination is Sept 25. Scrutiny of Nomination is Sept 26 while the last date of withdrawal is Sept 29.

HAYULIANG: More than 300 polling personnel including Magistrates have attended the first round of training. The Returning Officer of 45- Hayulaing (ST) AC C.S. Jeionow, DC briefed about the latest Guidelines of ECI and asked them to perform their respective duties with sincerity and dedication.

Being a remote Constituency some staffs may require to foot march of two days to reach the allotted Polling Stations. This time elaborate arrangement have been kept for smooth and fast communication Network by engaging special runners, WT Sets, Satellite Phone and DSPT.

EVMs awareness campaign has also started from today. Resource person have been deputed to places like Kibithoo, Hawai, Walong, Goiliang. Prior to this task, R.K. Borthakur, ADC-Cum-Assistant Returning Officer, Hayuliang has briefed them about the EVM awareness campaign.

SEPPA: Meanwhile no major poll related incidents have been reported from the district. Deputy Commissioner cum DEO Pige Ligu informed that the additional force would arrive very soon for the smooth conduct of the election, reports DIPRO.

Bikers ride to “preserve our green”

BOMDILA, Sept 23: When 27 Royal Enfield Bikers from six States roared in the streets of Bomdila town, they were initially mistaken for an election bike rally organized by some political outfit! Led by The Royal Enfield Riders of Meghalaya (RERAM) and closely followed by other bikers from The Madras Bulls (Chennai), Jharkhand Riders (Jharkhand), Eastern Bulls (Kolkatta), Rhino Riders (Assam) and The Arunachal Bullet Club, the bikers reached today at Bomdila on a 1298 km bike expedition from Shillong to Tawang. The team is led by Phang Warjri, President of RERAM.

They were felicitated by Arunachal Mountaineering & Adventure Sports Association (AMASA) in a simple function held at Thubchog Gatseling Gompa, Bomdila.

AMASA President Tsering Wange welcomed each member by offering ‘Khata’ and wished the expedition team all the success in their adventurous pursuit. Reciprocating the hospitability, the expedition team leader Warjri thanked AMASA members and presented a RERAM Flag, an exclusive from the members of Royal Enfield Bikers of India.

The Royal Enfield Bike Expedition is being organized to enlighten the people on the importance of preserving the virgin forests and the rich culture of the State.

They have chosen Arunachal Pradesh as the destination in order to keep up with this year’s theme ‘Ride to preserve our green’. Adventure and tourism were the other two main attractions for the member bikers coming from six different States of India.

APYC GS resigns

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress, General Secretary Mongol Yomso resigned from the party. Yomso in his resignation letter to APCC said, “I have served in the youth Congress for more than 10 years but now I have lost my trust in the leadership of Congress party in the state as they do not uphold the integrity and ideology of Congress party”.

He further said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh must realize that the time has come to overthrow the corrupt Congress leaders and work together to elect new leadership to form a new government in the state.

Indian National Congress (INC) Party in Arunachal Pradesh is not focusing on the true concept of Congress ideologies and discipline, he said while adding that the party in the state was propagating the personal interest sidelining many committed party men and women.

AICC clears Raja’s name

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: Less than 72 hours remaining for the filing of nomination, the All India Congress Committee has cleared the name of Balo Raja as its official nominee for Palin-Chambang constituency.

APCC General Secretary T C Tok while talking to ATNS said that AICC conveyed the information regarding nomination of Raja early this morning.

With the clearance of party candidate for Palin Chambang, Congress has declared its nominees for all sixty seats.

BJP has announced the names of 24 candidates while Nationalist Congress Party declared 30 and Trinamool Congress 29.

Say no to money: ACF

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: Expressing grave concern over the role played by money in run up to the Assembly election, Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has urged upon all sections of the society to be vigilant and protect our democratic rights and values.

The general public should be aware of those who offer money for votes, the ACF in a release said and added that anyone who takes money is selling oneself and in the bargain they loses their democratic right to demand accountability from the elected representatives.

“Accepting money from such “merchants of democracy” encourages and perpetuates corruption, the release said. Many developmental projects shown implemented only on paper is due to money politics, the ACF said. He also urged upon the Christian community to play a pivotal role and project itself as a community with a difference. It should be guided by ideals other than the mere acquisition of power by any means. No one should indulge in any form of violence or booth capturing, the release said.

The Forum also called upon the political parties to give commitment for equal treatment to all citizens of the state.

Raja terms assault cowardice

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: MLA Balo Raja has reacted sharply to ransacking of Circle Office in Palin and physical assault of officers and staff. Terming the incident cowardice which deserves condemnation from all sections of society, he alleged that it was handiwork of few politically vested interest people.

On Sept 19, a group is reported to have manhandled the Circle Officer and Observer IAS officer Kapa Kholie and ransacked the office and Inspection Bungalow during an Electoral Roll hearing. Raja further said that laptop belonging to Department of relief and rehabilitation which was picked up during the skirmish should be returned.

Painting exhibition and seminar

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: Department of Art and Culture in collaboration with North East Zone Cultural Centre organized a painting exhibition cum seminar at Bharat Scouts and Guides Hostel, Naharlagun on September 22 and 23.

Commissioner, Cultural Affairs Y D Thongchi attended the inaugural function as Chief Guest, while Director Art and Culture, Naharlagun M Bagra attended the closing function as Chief Guest and distributed certificates to all the participants. Thongchi and Bagra highlighted the importance of painting works and advised the students to become eminent painters of the state.

Art and Culture, Deputy Director J Siram thanked the Director, NEZCC for sponsoring the programme.

Ledum INC office inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Sept 23: The Election Office of Indian National Congress was opened at Ledum in 37 West Pasighat Constituency by Block Congress President Tasung Saroh yesterday. Sitting MLA Omak Apang is the official Congress party candidate from the constituency.

Meanwhile many members from BJP Sahari Kendra have joined the hands of Congress to strengthen the hands of the MLA Omak Apang and the Congress party.

BJP alleges

ITANAGAR: BJP has said that Home Minister Jarbom Gamli is using SIC as a tool to harass his opponent Bai Gadi. It said that Gadi is being harassed physically, mentality besides tarnishing his image with fabricated allegations. The party said that let law takes its own course of action if Gadi is involved in any illegal activities.

Ribia outlines future visions

ITANAGAR: At a public rally organized by the public, MLA Nani Ribia highlighted major achievement during his tenure and placed his future visions for development of Ziro-Hapoli constituency while adding that stability is the sole criterion to progress.

During the rally, he released manifesto for the ensuing assembly elections, white paper on delimitation of Ziro-Hapoli Constituency, report on establishment of technical and medical university and Talley Valley development board.

ITANAGAR: Oyan Youth Group today organized a cleanliness drive at Oyan, East Siang. The youth group also cleared the garbage at the township in an effort to keep the border town clean.

No surgery at Naharlagun General Hospital

ITANAGAR: Routine and emergency surgeries will be not be performed in General Hospital, Naharlagun from 29 Sept to 7 Oct due to shifting of Operation Theater to the New Block. Chief Medical Officer Dr.Moji Jini informed this today.

All the patients who were scheduled for Operation during the period mentioned are being directed to visit the respective Out Patient Departments (OPDs) for re-scheduling of their operations.

ITANAGAR: Talo Mugli has been appointed as Chairman, Western Parliamentary Constituency of state campaign committee, Indian National Congress Party for the forthcoming assembly election.

Tuki kicks off poll campaign

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Nabam Tuki kicked off Assembly election campaign amid huge gathering of INC senior leaders, panchayat leaders, HGBs, GBs, party workers and general public at Sagalee today.

Tuki was elected unopposed in the last Assembly election while there will be multi-cornered fight this time.

ATWS is moving in right direction

Madam,

All Talo Welfare Society has decided to organize a platform speech on Sept 30 next so that all contesting candidates spell out their policies and programs.

If I am not wrong, this is the Society which is moving in right direction. I wish they make it happens. Who knows money politics may be played from backdoor by political leaders to avoid platform speech, who want to siphon out people’s money by giving false promises and without vision. If this Society leaders are truly great / honest and taking their people (society) into confidence, they can surely make it happens.

This Society could be an example for taking initiative for platform discussion so that deserving candidates get elected. It is also an indirect initiative for the welfare of the state.

Like USA, in Arunachal Pradesh also a healthy democratic system would prevail during election time with the initiative of the Society.

They should give stipulated time to each candidate to avoid arguments. Society should not vote for that candidate who doesn’t come out for platform speech and should unitedly oppose him.

This process can lead to elect less corrupt, educated and visionary leaders. Other unions/ societies should also come out to guide the common people in this crucial time.

I hope all the responsible citizens will extend their support to the Society for its noble initiative.
